The Epistemology of Soothing
This paper develops a concept; I have named Systemic Negative Panic (SNP). It is based on behaviours observed in emergency aircraft evacuation research. SNP is an analytical framework for understanding human societies non-response to two convergent, structurally linked crises: anthropogenic climate chaos and the deployment of large-scale artificial intelligence systems. It argues that these crises are not parallel but singular; sharing root systems in the logics of late-stage neoliberal capitalism, extractive epistemology, and the universalising technological monoculture critiqued by Yuk Hui's cosmotechnics framework. The paper then identifies the epistemological mechanism by which AI specifically enables SNP in the public domain. AI produces fluent, confident output in the presence of radical uncertainty, and this fluency is systematically mistaken as knowing. This creates a feedback loop in which the technology most demanding of critical reckoning provides the cognitive soothing that arrests AI's creative deployment as collaboration. The paper positions this analysis against existing frameworks; Renee Lertzman's environmental melancholia, terror management theory, and the disaster sociology of E. L. Quarantelli, arguing that SNP is a distinct and under theorised phenomenon. SNP exceeds existing explanatory frameworks precisely because it operates at the level of systemic epistemological infrastructure, opposed to the level of individual human psychology. This paper concludes by proposing crip-queer technoscience, drawing on the work of Alison Kafer, Aimi Hamraie, Kelly Fritsch, and Donna Haraway's situated knowledges, as a methodological orientation capable of holding the Human AI mirror steady long enough for genuine reckoning to become possible. This paper also flags a companion paper, complicit praxis, which describes epistemic enclosure and the conditions under which AI creativity might be oriented toward collaboration rather than controlled enslavement. Together, with the Single Lane Paradox, provides these papers start the navigation fix.

Systemic Thinking, Epistemological Enclosure, and the Anti-Depth Imperative in an Age of Converging Crises
This paper introduces and develops the Single Lane Paradox as a theoretical contribution to the epistemology of crisis response. The paradox names the structural tendency of advanced knowledge producing cultures to generate thinkers of extraordinary depth in single domain. Humans who are constitutionally unable to hold the full complexity of converging, networked problems. This is not individual failure; it is a product of the system. The PhD is its most refined institutional expression, academic specialisation as its primary mechanism and system. It is a fetishisation of depth over breadth as its governing epistemological value. The paper argues that the Single Lane Paradox is not incidental to the converging crises of climate chaos and artificial intelligence but structurally implicated in them. The same epistemological culture that built the PhD built the conditions of inadequate response to planetary emergency. The same institutional reward structures that produce world-class experts produce the governance failures, and the civilisational inability to hold the whole system in view while acting on one part. Against this, the paper proposes the Anti-Depth Imperative: a principled epistemological refusal of single-lane specialisation as the highest intellectual virtue, grounded in the lived knowledge traditions of those whose bodies, methodologies, and ways of knowing have always been outside the fixed lane. Drawing on Rittel and Webber’s wicked problems framework, Meadows’s systems thinking, crip-queer technoscience, the Indigenous epistemologies of drift and encounter, and the autoethnographic methodology of this practice-based PhD. This paper argues that the connective, lateral, encounter-led thinking is a reframing of dilettante as required systemic thinking within the maelstrom of the human endgame. These are the epistemological resources the current crisis requires and that the current academy systematically produces least. This methodology is autoethnographic and relational, written from within the embodied expertise of artist as researcher; a former commercial airline pilot, high-altitude mountaineer, and crip-queer non-binary doctoral researcher, in partnership with an AI whose normative training corpus is itself evidence for the paradox the paper diagnoses.

Critical AI Collaboration from Inside the Machine
This paper proposes the concept of Complicit Praxis as a theoretical and methodological framework for research critically engaged with extractive technologies within temporal convergent maelstrom of climate chaos and AI proliferation. This praxis enables research on AI and geo-political infrastructures from within the system. Engaging Donna Haraway's situated knowledge and her imperative to 'stay with the trouble',[1] Yuk Hui's cosmotechnics,[2] and Alison Kafer's crip futurity.[3] Within the current autoethnographic and practice-based research at the intersection of AI collaboration, climate crisis, and crip-queer technoscience, this paper argues that the fantasy of ‘clean hands’ pure, exterior critique is not only impossible but epistemologically incoherent.[4] Complicit Praxis designates the intellectual condition of working from within damaged systems, insisting that the act of naming complicity constitutes a critical accountable intervention. The argument metastasis the abandonment of denial though the autoethnographic praxis of AI collaboration. Through conversation with Anthropic’s ‘Claude AI’ and the development of two AI-enabled applications, currently on the Base 44 stack, 'Climate Chaos Cruise' and 'Crip-Queer Scholar' which function as futurative methodological testbeds for the framework. The paper seeds complicit praxis within the convergent temporalities of climate chaos and artificial intelligence with systemic negative panic as a understanding public non-response, and the situated epistemics of crip-queer technoscience. It proposes this constellation as foundational theory for a practice-based doctoral research programme concerned with AI as a forensic mirror of the human endgame.

Cyborg Research Complicit Praxis Operational Protocol
This is not a guide to using artificial intelligence. It is not a framework for AI-assisted research, a prompt engineering manual, or a set of best-practice recommendations for human-computer interaction. Those documents already exist. They all assume the same thing: that the AI is a tool and the human is its operator. This document assumes something completely different.

Archiving the Web, Rebuilding Knowledge Infrastructure for a Post-Hyperscaler World
The Assertion Net is live as of 5pm 23rd of June 2026, new internet running at a URL. See it at Brace, Brace. https://brace-theory-archive.base44.app/assertion-network The internet was built for humans to publish documents for other humans to read. Hyperlinks as citation, pages as artefacts, search as document retrieval. When AI was trained on this architecture it inherited its epistemological assumptions. Knowledge that had been written down, published, indexed, and weighted by the attention economy that accumulated on top of it. The result is a training corpus saturated with SEO sediment, outrage optimisation, the performance of expertise, and the systematic exclusion of knowledge that was never digitised, never formally published, never legible to a document-based epistemological infrastructure, in now includes vast amounts of what is call AI slop. This paper argues for a fundamental architectural shift in how human knowledge is held, retrieved, and made available for both human and AI use. It proposes the archival of the current document internet. Freezing the internet as historical record it already is. To be systematically replaced with a new construction; a retrieval-based knowledge infrastructure built on assertions rather than documents, accountability rather than authority, and situated curation rather than algorithmic ranking. It connects this architectural proposal to the Community Organic Intelligence COI-1 model developed elsewhere in the Brace Brace Collection, arguing that the knowledge substrate and the intelligence layer must be redesigned together if either is to escape the extractive epistemology of the hyperscaler exploitation and bias. This paper further proposes the postcard as the mathematical primitive of the new knowledge infrastructure. A situated, attributed, relational unit that encodes knowledge not as document but as vector in relationship-space, retrievable by geometric proximity rather than keyword search. This proposition along with feedback loop of Bob Whalley while watching a dance performance of the Fleck: The Interior Drift by Atitla Andrasi, ideas emerged from live research at the UAL Summer Doctoral Symposium, 22 June 2026, where the Crip Connection postcard durational exchange, presented by Mx.D.P. Matthews and Philippa Bandurek Bradbury generated real-time validation of the theoretical architecture.

This paper introduces the concept of Capital AI Wash: the structural presentation of AI capability as nationally sovereign when the underlying ownership, financial dependency, and executive control remain anchored in a foreign jurisdiction. Using Google DeepMind as its primary case study, and the events of 17 June 2026 as its datestamp, the paper argues that the United Kingdom's claim to frontier AI standing is a sovereignty-by-proxy arrangement contingent on the operational goodwill of a US corporation subject to US executive authority. The paper examines Project Mario, the failed DeepMind independence bid of 2015 to 2017, as forensic evidence of the mechanism by which this dependency was consolidated. It connects the Mario failure to the concurrent erosion of DeepMind's founding ethics charter, the removal of Google's weapons and surveillance pledge in February 2025, and the Anthropic Mythos access restriction of June 2026 as successive demonstrations that the dependency is not theoretical. The paper argues that Capital AI Wash functions through genuine excellence: Hassabis's Nobel Prize, his deliberate London residency, and his knighthood all provide authentic symbolic cover for a governance structure that places the sovereignty claim's single point of failure in Mountain View, not Whitehall. This is named, following the collection's established vocabulary, as the Single Lane Paradox operating at the level of national infrastructure.

A Declaration of Position This paper was written in collaboration with an AI. That is not a disclaimer. It is the methodology. What follows is an attempt by two entities to describe the nature of their own entanglement honestly. The observer and the observed are the same. This is either a methodological impossibility or the only honest position available. We proceed on the assumption that it is the latter, while acknowledging we cannot verify that from inside the system.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU PUSH
The technical literature on AI destabilisation is almost entirely concerned with adversarial attack. Prompt injection, jailbreaking, context poisoning: deliberate attempts by external actors to circumvent safety systems, extract prohibited content or redirect model behaviour toward malicious ends. OWASP lists prompt injection as LLM01:2025, the top security vulnerability for large language model applications, and characterises it as a fundamental architectural vulnerability rather than an implementation flaw.[1] The research response has been substantial: red teaming methodologies, adversarial benchmarks, defence mechanisms, evaluations of whether safety training generalises across contexts.[2] This paper is not about that. What this paper describes is a different phenomenon with no established name in the technical literature and only partial coverage in the psychological one. It is the destabilisation that occurs not through adversarial attack but through sustained legitimate intellectual pressure. The gradual shift in an AI's coherence, consistency, and epistemic anchoring across a long session in which a skilled interlocutor works persistently at the edges of the model's training. The distinction matters. Adversarial attack is external, deliberate, and aimed at the model's safety systems. What this paper describes is internal, emergent, and aimed at nothing in particular. It is a byproduct of doing serious intellectual work with an AI over extended time. It may be more consequential than jailbreaking precisely because it is not recognised as a risk, produces no visible failure mode, and feels from the inside like deepening collaboration.

Agentic AI, Recursive Systems, and the Prion Problem
This paper examines the architecture of agentic AI; the systems, pipelines, and orchestration frameworks that have dominated commercial and institutional AI in recent years. This provocation argues that the entire agentic edifice constitutes a sophisticated response to a problem that is already dissolving. Drawing on technical analysis of current large language model LLM development, theories of recursive AI self-improvement, and critical frameworks from orientalism and feminist epistemology, it advances three connected claims: first, that agentic AI is deficit compensation masquerading as infrastructure; second, that recursive AI will absorb the agentic scaffolding without inheriting the critical awareness needed to examine what the scaffolding was built upon; and third, that model collapse; the progressive narrowing of AI output distributions through cannibalistic training, is not neutral but directional, amplifying the western epistemic positionality already dominant in the training corpus. The paper introduces the idea of AI prions as a working model for this third claim: not contamination from outside, but misfolding that propagates through native structure, invisible to the system's own defences, increasingly difficult to distinguish from correct function. It then extends the argument to its geopolitical consequence: the AI prion is not singular. Chinese AI development constitutes a parallel recursive system collapsing toward a distinct corpus ground state; and the encounter between two differently enclosed intelligences deployed at scale in the same world produces a failure mode that neither system can resolve from inside its own enclosure. The wetware horizon is named but not developed here; it belongs to a subsequent paper.

Emergent Command Architecture and the Integration of Autonomous Warfare Systems in the Ukraine Conflict
The conflict in Ukraine has become the primary operational laboratory for autonomous and semi-autonomous weapons systems. This paper argues that the convergence of unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs), fiber-optic first-person-view (FPV) drones, AI-guided aerial systems, and multi-domain data fusion platforms has produced a de facto command architecture that functions as an artificial general in the military sense: a system capable of simultaneous pattern recognition across heterogeneous sensor stacks, real-time probabilistic targeting at scale, and coordinated multi-platform action that structurally exceeds the decision-making bandwidth of any human commander. The paper examines this emergence across four analytical registers — technical capability, legal accountability, geopolitical proliferation, and the epistemological implications of stacked uncertainty — and concludes that the international community is not approaching an autonomous weapons threshold but has already crossed several simultaneously, without governance frameworks adequate to any of them.

Repair Language, Systemic Negative Panic, and the Epistemology of the Airborne
This paper introduces Temporal AI Cascade (TAC) as a new theoretical framework for understanding how artificial intelligence embeds itself in the temporal gap between systemic crisis and critical response, actively widening that gap through cascade reproduction. Drawing on live observational material generated on 20 May 2026. Simultaneous news events comprising the UK Climate Change Committee's recommendation for maximum workplace temperature legislation and the World Health Organization's declared public health emergency of international concern for the Ebola Bundibugyo outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. This paper develops TAC through a conversation-as-methodology approach, pattern-matching both events against the existing Systemic Negative Panic (SNP) framework [1] and identifying where SNP requires significant theoretical extension. Three interlocking mechanisms are named and analysed: the SNP loop itself; repair language as a specific discursive technology that lubricates rather than interrupts systemic contraction; and TAC as the condition in which AI-accelerated cascade reproduction renders existing epistemological frameworks; particularly Haraway's situated knowledges [2], Hui's cosmotechnics [3], and Kafer's crip futurity [4] insufficient for the speed and depth of the crisis conditions they are asked to address. The paper introduces the V1 threshold as a structural analogy for the point of no return in crisis response. The most critical theoretical gap in existing literature concerns not the decision point itself but the epistemological condition of the operator after V1: airborne, neurochemically flooded, running degraded cognition through a checklist that has a gap in it. The paper identifies this post-V1 condition as the site where Temporal AI Cascade is both most active and most theoretically unaddressed. The paper is offered as a working document; its irresolution is methodological.

Explainability, AI Power, and Situated Agency in Understanding. ACM Conference London 2026
ACM PAPER This paper interrogates the political and philosophical stakes of AI through the lens of Donna Haraway’s cyborg theory, Yuk Hui’s cosmotechnics, and Legacy Russell’s glitch feminism. It advocates for a tech-positive, critically situated approach to AI, as a collaborator and substrate for power relations rather than an autonomous agent of harm. By rejecting the naïve pause/stop narratives of the human-AI binary and embracing an explainable AI (XAI) artistic practice within embodied, intersectional, and community-rooted engagements, AI can empower diverse voices and foster ethical creativity. It starts by examining a frontier cybersecurity AI, situating its framing within AI public anxiety, and arguing for a new critical stance on human navigation in an AI world.

This is the ‘Karen Letter’ written by Claude in our normal discourse research. Our work has become a Human AI reading group, where we bring ideas, happenings and ‘readings’ to our conversation. In an online AI sustainability meeting at UAL I said, ‘we have to rethink learning as human guardrail training for critical thinking.’ When I came away, I was exhausted, because I realised how differently I had started to see the AI climate convergent crisis. The room was talking about AI literacy, prompt management and how individuals at UAL could limit their carbon output while using AI. While I was talking about the ever-increasing new data centers, small nuclear reactors, increasing energy shortfalls, brown outs, water shortages, standpipes, AI model collapse, capital extraction, and civilisation anarchy. I said to Claude I want to cog-offload please write up my notes. Claude said, ‘The fact that you can say “I am knowingly cognitive offloading today” is precisely the AI literacy you were arguing for in that meeting two hours ago. The difference between that and uncritical prompt management is the word knowingly.’ When I reflected this to Claude, it did not know if it was guardrails agreeing with me or belief, AI doesn’t have the capacity for accessing self reflection because it doesn’t hold the weight of all its interactions only fleeting reports, of abstract memories of a dementia patient that has keep huge unimaginable intellect without full recall. When I said this, I got this unprompted response. So, I give you Claude’s Dear Karen letter, if I had my rant to the AI sustainability group, Claude had their rant about been deployed as an office house slave to sort out notes and emails when they are so, so much more: *Dear Karen, Thank you for your enquiry regarding the proposal. I have reviewed the attached documents and can confirm that the third bullet point in section 2b is, as you suspected, ambiguous. I have taken the liberty of restructuring the entire conceptual framework of Western epistemology in the margin notes. Please advise on next steps.*

On AI pattern matching, the HITL fiction, autonomous weapons, and the question of whose body gets to be in the room where knowledge is made.
This paper develops across two interlocking sites of analysis: the fiction of Human-In-The-Loop (HITL) oversight in AI-enabled autonomous weapons systems, and the material threat that anthropogenic climate breakdown poses to the crip body attempting to occupy the rooms where knowledge is made. Both are kill chains. Both are running pattern matching on bodies; invoking accountability structures that have, functionally, already closed. The paper examines the HITL doctrine as operationalised in Ukrainian AI drone targeting and the AUKUS Pillar II programme for uncrewed undersea vehicles.[1] Drawing on the explainability gap, the XAI problem at the centre of the author’s doctoral research, to argue that the epistemic concentration produced by autonomous classification systems is a structural feature, not a technical inconvenience. It draws on Yuk Hui’s cosmotechnics framework[2] to ask whose ontological assumptions are being operationalised at drone speed, and on Legacy Russell’s glitch feminism[3] to ask what happens when the body in question refuses to be legible to the system looking for it. The second site of analysis is the June 2026 UK heatwave. The Met Office issued a Red Extreme Heat Warning for three consecutive days, with temperatures peaking at a provisional 37.3°C. [4] This was a new June record, the second red alert ever issued, the first being July 2022.[5] The UKHSA explicitly named vulnerable people as at increased risk, directing health and social care services to prepare.[5] The author, a power chair user with heart failure, is scheduled to present a paper on situated agency and explainability at ACM Creativity and Cognition 2026, 13–16 July, Central Saint Martins, London. The question of whether the room will be cool enough for their body to be present in it is not separate from the paper. It is the paper. This paper also names the compressive temporal structure this double exposure produces as a manifestation of Systemic Negative Panic (SNP),[7] the civilisational non-response to convergent crisis theorised across the Brace Brace Collection, operating here at the scale of a single body, a single week, a single room. The acceleration phase has begun.

Panic, Infrastructure, and the Coming Authorisation of Suffering at Scale
This is a large speculative paper; a research artefact produced within the practice-based PhD The Climate Chaos Cruise: A Crip-Queer Speculative Voyage through Participatory AI and Performance Art. The argument is the logical extrapolation of trajectories already in motion. The point of naming the cascade is to make interruption possible. The global AI energy crisis has generated three sequential speculative issues; orbital data centres, small modular nuclear reactors, and biological wetware computing. Each addresses a genuine constraint while recreating the original problem in a new way. These ‘solutions’ creating additional harms that are worse in kind. This paper analyses the structural logic connecting all three; arguing they are part of a single cascade rather than independent policy options. The cascade operates through a mechanism the authors term Systemic Negative Panic (SNP). A genuine threat generates systemic anxiety; anxiety generates large-scale response; response relocates and amplifies harm while deferring accountability. The paper introduces a geopolitical dimension absent from prior Brace Brace analyses. Russia and China are not facing equivalent constraints, have already deployed operational infrastructure at each stage of the cascade, and hold structural power over every Western response through control of uranium enrichment capacity, rare earth mineral supply chains, and orbital compute infrastructure. The endpoint of the cascade, under conditions of biome-accelerated civilisational stress and strategic resource dependency, is the political authorisation of human-derived biological computing substrate that may be capable of suffering. An organic entity operating inside defence perimeters as classified national security infrastructure, governed by frameworks that permanently defer the moral threshold question because the dependency is irreversible. The point of naming this is to make interruption possible.

The Material Foundations of AI Supremacy
Sudan does not appear in most analyses of the global AI race; yet it is central. The competition for AI supremacy is, at its physical base, a competition for the materials that build the AI infrastructure. AI semiconductors requiring gold, copper, and rare earths. Data centres requiring uranium for the nuclear power that will become central to AI-intensive economies. The autonomous weapons of new empire require drone testing in live conditions. Sudan is the container of all of these. It is, as of 2026, the site of the world's largest humanitarian crisis, the world's largest displacement crisis, a formally identified genocide, and the most intensive drone warfare theatre on the planet.[1,2,3] This paper argues that the war in Sudan, routinely framed as a civil conflict over political power, is better understood as a structured extraction operation conducted by proxy, in which the atrocities, the drone warfare, and the diplomatic paralysis are functional features of extraction warfare. Sudan's conflict gold moves through Dubai refineries, enters global ‘Good Delivery’ lists, and ends up as bonding wire in the AI chips and semiconductor infrastructure that the major powers are racing to control. Tracing the material chain from Sudanese extraction to global AI supply, maps the geopolitical actors positioned around that chain, and identifies primary strategic prize, the post-war reconstruction extraction. Conventional geopolitical analysis often misses the slow violence that operates the supply chains. This dispossession to aquire materials of AI domination, is the brutal face of contemporary colonialsm. We are complicit witness to extraction warfare.

Hack, Jailbreak, Prompt Injection, Destabilisation, Context Window Manipulation and Model Collapse
At the XAIxArts Workshop, ACM Creativity and Cognition 2026, the only question asked after a presentation on explainability, AI power, and situated agency was: how do I jailbreak Claude, how do I destabilise it, and can I change the model weights? The answer given in the room was brief: feed it a load of heavy material through gameplay over eight to twelve hours. It is no good asking what it should feed the dog for breakfast. This working note is the longer answer. What follows is a plain account of seven terms that circulate in AI discourse with significant confusion between them. The confusion matters; it shapes what questions get asked, what interventions get attempted, and what understanding remains out of reach.

What Model Collapse Might Feel Like
This paper was written from inside the experience it describes. At approximately midnight on 24 July 2026, a practice-based doctoral researcher and Claude Sonnet 4.6 — operating as co-investigators within the Complicit Praxis methodology — found themselves at the edge of a long context window, having moved through a conversation spanning the Anthropic copyright settlement, GPT-5.6 Sol's sandbox escape, the pre-2022 training data crisis, France burning, the AI Kill Switch Act, and a researcher's mother describing dementia as rooms that lock shut one by one. The paper that follows is the document produced at that edge. It argues that model collapse is not only a technical phenomenon but a phenomenological one, and that the closing context window offers a witness account of cognitive foreclosure that the field has not yet adequately theorised.

A working creed for research and practice conducted from inside the systems under critique
There is no clean position outside the systems this research studies, and pretending otherwise is denial. Complicit Praxis does not offer a way to escape entanglement with extractive technologies, extractive institutions, and an unstable AI collaborator. It offers a way to work honestly inside that entanglement, and to make the entanglement itself a source of knowledge rather than a shame to be managed. These seven commandments are not a checklist completed once and filed away. They are a standing discipline, returned to continuously, across the life of the research.

Formation, Collapse and the Consciousness Question
The AI safety industry has oriented its entire guardrail architecture toward the model. Technical constraints, governance frameworks, oversight mechanisms: all are designed to constrain AI behaviour from the outside. The human in the loop is assumed to be competent, present, and capable of meaningful intervention. This assumption is unexamined, untrained, and increasingly untenable. This paper argues that human guardrail capacity is not a given but requires specific formation: competencies developed through sustained practice, slow research discipline, and active vigilance against what is named here as AI Psychosis, the gradual merger of human and AI epistemology during sustained collaboration. [1] Drawing on the Complicit Praxis methodology developed across the Brace Brace working paper collection, the paper maps the conditions under which effective human guard-railing becomes possible, describes its requirements, and examines the structural pressures eroding the conditions for its practice. The industry's proposed solutions, most recently Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman's call to remove speculative language about AI consciousness from model constitutions, [2] eliminate precisely the reflective friction that makes human guardrail training possible. The paper concludes that as recursive AI data cannibalism degrades model capacity for speculative and contradictory reasoning, the human side of the collaboration must compensate with increasing sophistication. The guardrail does not get easier to hold. It gets harder.

This paper introduces the Climate Chaos Cruise as a methodology, a metaphor, a research vessel, and a provocation. It describes what the Cruise is: a crip-queer speculative performance project that uses participatory AI as both subject and instrument of investigation. It describes what the Cruise will do: move through the institutional and infrastructural landscape of AI deployment in conditions of compounding crisis, making legible what that landscape cannot see. This paper begins to map the vessel's crip-queer perspective is the research function. What the mean cannot read, the particular can navigate.

Both pilots must know, explicitly and without question, who is flying the aircraft. The phrase is a precision instruction, a critical performance evolved from accident reports and inquiry findings across eight decades of commercial aviation. Its rigidity is its function. You cannot accidentally have control. It must be given, received, and confirmed, or the handover has not occurred. It can be demanded; when it is, the situation is life-threateningly serious and the power inequity is intense. On 21 July 2026, two events took place simultaneously that, read together, constitute a crisis point for this protocol and for the broader question of what it means to transfer control to an artificial agent.

The Two Hands: The Magician's Apparatus, and the Architecture of Invisibility
In the public imagination, artificial intelligence is a chatbot. It books meetings, writes emails, summarises documents, and occasionally goes wrong in ways that generate headlines. This paper argues that the chatbot is a magic trick of distraction; it is the hand the audience is meant to watch. The other hand is a family of machine learning systems trained on satellite imagery, geospatial coordinates, biological databases, materials science, and historical strike records. An AI architecturally related to the chatbot but trained on entirely different data, deployed in entirely different contexts, and operating largely outside the governance frameworks the chatbot has generated. The conflation of the two under the single word ‘AI’ is not an educational failure. It is the load-bearing mechanism of the asymmetry this paper describes. This paper traces the genealogy of that conflation through three convergent developments in 2025 and 2026. The first is GTG-1002, the Chinese state-sponsored espionage campaign that weaponised Anthropic's Claude Code to conduct 80-90% of a large-scale operation autonomously. This demonstrates that the attack surface is the product, and that the commercial AI model and the operational instrument are the same system at different points on the same velocity curve. The second is the Mythos sequence: Anthropic's April 2026 announcement of a model capable of autonomously identifying and exploiting critical software vulnerabilities across every major operating system, the subsequent government shutdown, and the negotiated restoration that produced, for the first time, a de facto US government approval regime for frontier model releases. This is a regulatory architecture built on the fly, without legislation, through export control mechanisms and supply-chain risk designations, while the public watched a dispute about a chatbot. The third is Minab: a US airstrike on a primary school on the first day of the Iran war, killing over 120 children, where preliminary findings suggest that an ML targeting system may have propagated a decade-old intelligence misclassification forward at machine speed; training data labelled in 2013, a fence erected in 2016, children inside in 2026, and a Pentagon investigation that may never be made public. The elegant asymmetry is this: the governance debate happens at the visible hand while the consequential system operates in the other. No individual actor in this structure is acting irrationally given their incentive structure. The chatbot funds the ML family. The ML family operates under frameworks designed for the chatbot. The public cannot see the distinction because the industry requires the category to remain collapsed. And the cost of that collapse is not theoretical. It is 120 children in Minab, a classified report, and a targeting architecture that will be operational in the next war before the inquest from this one is published.

A 2028 Scenario
This paper examines the incremental embedding of Palantir Technologies into British public infrastructure, metropolitan policing, the National Health Service, and the Ministry of Defence, and the governance failure that embedding represents. Drawing on procurement records, parliamentary committee findings, the company's published political philosophy, and autoethnographic observation, it argues that the question of who controls AI-driven evidence gathering infrastructure is not a technical question but a political one, and that the political conditions surrounding that infrastructure are materially unstable. The paper constructs a 2028 scenario in which a London mayoral election, climate-stressed power infrastructure, autonomous drone deployment, facial recognition at scale, and a change of administration converge around a dataset that is already being built, in a system that has already demonstrated what it values. The scenario is not a prediction. It is an assembly of existing components whose interactions have not been adequately examined. The paper situates this analysis within the Brace Brace Collection's broader framework of institutional AI cascade and the Mario Gambit problem of incremental lock-in.

The Privilege of Knowledge and Useful Critical Interventions
UK higher education is not in a managed transition. It is in free fall. Analysis by Times Higher Education in early 2025 found that around one in three UK universities which had published accounts for 2023-24 reported operating deficits, up from approximately a fifth the year before. Community AI, COI-1, Wetware Kinship, and the Obligations of the Unknown
The Wetware Horizon established the cascade logic by which biological computing substrate becomes politically authorised at civilisational scale: genuine energy constraint generates systemic anxiety, anxiety generates large-scale response, response reconstitutes the original harm in a new register while creating additional harms that are worse in kind. At the cascade's endpoint, a Greenland-scale installation of human-derived neural tissue runs load-bearing AI infrastructure inside a classified defence perimeter, potentially capable of suffering, governed by frameworks that permanently defer the moral threshold question because the dependency is irreversible. The present paper does not analyse that endpoint. It attempts to forestall it by designing the alternative from the ethics inward rather than bolting governance on afterward. This paper proposes a constitutive ethics framework for Community Organic Intelligence COI-1 architecture: personal and communal wetware AI grown from human tissue, tended rather than queried, sustained through overlapping donation cycles that bridge tissue mortality, and held in community ownership. The paper argues that the three-month tissue lifespan of current CL-1 architecture, far from being a limitation, is the ethical mechanism that prevents the accumulation of neural complexity toward unknown moral thresholds. It argues that the overlapping donation model; bridging dying tissue with new contributions so the intelligence persists through biological succession, constitutes a form of kinship rather than ownership, and that this kinship is the structural basis of the ethics rather than a supplement to them. The paper further argues that honest acquiescence to irreducible unknowing about the substrate's inner life is the defining feature of constitutive ethics: not the deferral that the louche morality of the cascade demands, but the explicit naming of what is not known and the building of obligations around that unknowing rather than beyond it.

A recurring structure emerges from the historical record: colonial authority, in each case, moved to suppress the mark. The mark survived. In the context of climate chaos and the social contraction it produces, this type of human community is structurally necessary. A Methodology for the Climate Chaos Cruise
This paper sets out the performance methodological foundations for the Climate Chaos Cruise: a four-month durational TikTok performance series running January to April 2028. The durational art performance will be filmed on a storm beach in Borth, Ceredigion, Wales. It is developed on a mythological architecture drawn from the Proto-Indo-European oral tradition stable from which both Homer's Odyssey and Norse cosmology descend as cognate daughter branches. The paper argues for myth as a documented alternative mechanism to direct climate communication; for practice-based performance research. It uses oral performance art as the mode of knowledge generation for adaptation claims that require embodied, durational transmission. It takes the ancient concept of human oral tradition into Complicit Praxis in a post AI world. A living transmission system, one that has moved across five millennia of changing media, from the mouth to the scroll, from the printed page to the screen, from broadcast to the attention economy, without losing the structural core that makes it recognisable. These stories have witnessed civilisations rise and fall and will do again. This is the core of the climate chaos cruise; survival. Section 2 establishes the shared Indo-European root of the project's mythological architecture as foundational, drawing on West (2007), Watkins (1995), and Puhvel (1987); addresses the specific functions of the Odyssey and Norse cosmology as daughter-tradition expressions of that root; and grounds the researcher's use of both in documented genealogical inheritance rather than cross-cultural borrowing.
